wedding reception ideasThe wedding is one of those special days that should only come along once in a lifetime. So how do you make it really stand out and how do you make the wedding reception shine.

Here are a few ideas

1. Hire a castle.

A castle can be an amazing backdrop for a wedding. It is steeped in history and tradition and can make a great backdrop for a wedding. It will make the wedding pictures really stand out. For my wedding we booked the Great Hall at Caerphilly Castle and organised our own outside caterers. Itmade for a very memorable day. The only downside was that we had to be flexible on the day and so we booked a Friday as the day for our wedding.

2. Have a reception on a boat

A boat makes a great venue for a wedding reception and has a great novelty factor. It has the added advantage that the scenery changes as you go along. My bother booked a boat for his wedding and we were able to cruise along the River Severn.

I would imagine that you would need to be careful of taking a boat out to sea in case any of the guests get sea-sick.

3. Hire a country house

Fo a really intimate wedding you could take over a country house for a wedding. If you plan far enough in advance you could get exclusive use of the house including accomodation for the night before and the night after.

4. Book some entertainment.

A magician can add a nice touch and can be a great way to amuse the kids. Booking a band can be a nicer touch to booking a disco. If you want you could always book a tribute band. Where possible I would suggest that you always get the chance to watch the band or the magician in action before you book them. Watching a video tape will not do this for you.

5.  French Chateau

A French Chateau would make a pretty impressive venue for a wedding.  You could book a chateau and combine it with a holiday away with all of your families and friends.

6.  Football stadium

If the groom is a big football fan then you may want to look at booking the stadium (or a hospitality box) for part of the stadium.

Adding that little extra something to your Wedding Entertainment can create the WOW factor and ensure your guests are talking about your special day for years to come… and it doesn’t have to break the bank!

Here are 5 top tips for a wedding to remember:

1. Hire a Live Band. Although DJ’s may be cheaper, nothing will get the party started quicker than a professional, energetic, live band. Most also include a DJ option for between sets and after the show to keep the dance floor packed all night long!

2. Entertain your guests between proceedings. While the Bride and Groom are having their pictures taken a table Magician or Caricaturist can help keep your guests relaxed and the atmosphere fun and light hearted.

3. Add a centre piece to your reception. Ice Sculptures, Vodka Luges and Chocolate fountains are perfect for providing a great talking point.

4. Choose a theme. You can still have a traditional wedding but add a twist! Always dreamed of running off to get married in Las Vegas but worried what the family might say? … Why not bring Las Vegas to them? Hire a fun casino, bring in a Rat Pack band, name the tables after famous casinos, or go the whole hog and have Show Girls serving the drinks.

5. End your special day with a bang! Fireworks are a perfect end to a perfect day.

The wine on the tables can have a picture of the happy couple on the label. A good quality shot from the engagement photos will make a lovely feature.

Carival games with stuffed animal prizes (doubles as your favors). Or you can give away other types of favors as the prizes.

I am putting ivory heart shape cards on guests seats, with a small pen the idea is for them to write a toast to us. as they leave the ceromony they will be handed a red balloon with ribbon to attach message to. All the balloons will be released at the same time. should make great photo.

Why not deck out the garage for the reception. I read in the paper today that a couple did this to save money.

Sky Lanterns can help to make that special day one for all to remember.

They can also be personalized which adds an extra bit magic!

Make things simple and relaxed for a summer wedding by getting married at 2 pm then having a high tea rather than an expensive formal dinner. Think about what high tea at The Ritz hotel is like and you will get the idea. Lots of pretty sandwiches on cake stands served by waitressess in frillt pinnies, small fancy cakes and of couse tea and champagne. Someone I know spent the year before getting married hunting through car boot sales aquiring a mismatch of pretty china to use. You could add garden flowers in vintage vases, bunting, fairy and tea lights. You could even play some traditional fete games like cocnut shy, pin the tail on the donkey etc All very Britsh and you would enjoy your day with the guests being relaxed

Feel on top of the world by having the wedding reception high above a city.

There are now more tall buildings with fantastic function suites and excellent facilities for hosting a reception. You can get an idea of this from the interactive demo feature on Big Sand’s website.

If you are in London, have a look at the BT Tower and the walkways at Tower Bridge. Abroad, the Sky lounge at the Burj Al Arab is one of the best that I have seen and now, the Burj Khalifa is so tall that you may even see your house from up there.

(N.B) You will need to confirm your guest list to ensure that no one has vertigo.

Some decent ambient music is a must.. we got married in August last year, and thankfully my other half had the idea of having some one playing background music throughout the day, (but not during the evening obviously, reserved for the band :) ) when the band wasnt on. We booked a local guy http://www.pianomusicman.co.uk/ , and it certainly took the silence away from the wedding dinner that you sometimes get ! Lovely ambience… really made a difference.

Get a caricature made and this can be pout in a frame with a wide mat (glass added later) so people sign on the mat. This means you have a wonderful piece of art with people’s well-wishes there to see, not in a book stuffed away in a drawer.

The idea of a country house is a wonderful one. There are many country manors available for hire just a short drive from even the most urban areas of England. You can recreate the days of Pride and Prejudice to create a beautiful day to remember.

The reception is the very first party that you attend as a married couple and it needs to make a sensational statement.

The sound of steel drums has party written all over it and for this reason many more brides are looking for steel bands and steel band music to create a great atmosphere at their wedding reception. All you have to do is find a good steel drum band with a great service and see what an amazing difference it makes.

You can find Big Sand Steel Band on facebook and hear more live samples of steel band music; follow our journey with regular updates if you “like” the band.

With more and more people getting married abroad (especially in the Caribbean, they like to come back home and recreate a piece of that moment with family and friends, with a wedding reception party to reflect this

St steelasophical, we are seeing a trend in this use of our Caribbean music services, and having the advantage of offering not only a steel drum band, but also a Caribbean mobile Dj too, with backdrops, lighting etc … it all helps to allow the new Mr and Mrs to share they day all over again

The added value of using a large LED TV monitor to show and share pictures of the wedding is proving to be a big big PLUS

Have a magician entertain your guests.
Have your wedding video in 3D
